I grew up on the tail end of the technical revolution. Fortunately I’ve learned enough about computers, I-pods and cell phones to get myself from day to day. What I failed to realize is how “computer dependant” I’ve become! Tuesday the unthinkable occurred. The computer responsible for running our entire radio station either crashed, burned up or melted down. Whatever the cause, the effect was not pretty. By the end of the day I’d come to realize how spoiled I’ve become with this so-called new technology. Heck I remember starting in this business when 45 records were still being played and tape everywhere! But now it’s become an on air business of right and left clicks, hard drives and databases. I still don’t fully understand what makes this stuff tick and I have great respect for those who do. I just know that my life is much easier on air when all the drives are in place.
