WILD KINGDOM…DICKERMAN STYLE!
By Jamie Dickerman • Oct 6th, 2008 • Share:This past weekend, our 17 month old son Joshua went to spend some time on Grandma and Grandpa Schauer’s (my wife’s parents) farm near Ashley, ND. He loves to go out there and spend time, and get spoiled by them. He is their first grandchild, and believe me Grandma Fern takes good care of her boy. This weekend was no exception.
My wife and I purchased a home in south Wahpeton, back in February. Since then our little family has steadily grown. We have gone from just the four of us (my wife Jen, daughter Kaylee, son Joshua and I) to the four of us, plus my brother-in-law John, our 1 year old female Pug named Paris…my daughter’s 7 hermit crabs…15-20 tropical fish…and NOW…a one month old kitten named “Mittens”.
Mittens came to us from the farm this weekend. Mittens was abandoned by her mother, and of course my kids thought we would be the perfect home for her. I never fancied myself as a “cat person”, but I have to admit the little thing has grown on me. “Paris” the Pug has taken to Mittens as well, it seems like she is trying to be her mother.
The thing you have to understand about me is that when I was a kid, I never had any pets. I always wanted one, but we never had the time to take on the commitment of having a pet. And, if you don’t know, it is a MAJOR commitment. But, I am finding it is well worth it!
