Governor Hoven Celebrates Expansion of Local Business

Governor John Hoven was in Wahpeton today, August 28th, to help celebrate the expansion of WCCO Belting’s manufacture facility.  The Wahpeton based business hosted the Governor as part of a showcase of their 18.000 square foot addition.  Gov. Hoven highlighted that the growth of WCCO Belting and other local companies by the time that the Imation phase-out is complete that there will be 305 new jobs in place meaning an overall increase in the number of jobs.  Tom Shorma CEO and president of WCCO pointed out that this expansionis the second for the company, that is in its 55th year in Wahpeton, in five years.  Shorma said the company is growing in staffing as well.  In 2008 WCCO employed 72 people.  Currently 110 work at the conveyor belt manufacture, and they are currently looking to fill 30 more positions.  Wahpeton Mayor Jim Sturdevant took a fem moments to thank not only the Govenor but various city employees for the work that they put in to helping with the WCCO expansion.  Shorma pointed out that the work that is being done with expanding current business in area has a ripple effect by attracting support industries to the area.
